Sorry I haven’t responded to your concerned emails, but the thing is that it’s just hurt too much and taken me this long to get over it.
The short of the story is that my host (AM internet) completely fucked it up during a database move, then refused to accept any responsibility for the fuck up, and said “Oh well, it’s your fault you didn’t have a backup” despite their own assurances that the move would be fine, was no trouble and wouldn’t be noticeable.
Useless twits. (Oh, and that email address has been added intentionally – it’s freely available on their own website, but I thought that hey, if any of you readers feel like dropping the owner of this company an unpleasant little email to advise him that his company blows chunks, then please feel free!)
A month of completely useless emails from their support staff and dismissive emails from the rest of the company have resulted in absolutely no result, therefore I’ve decided to give up and start afresh. I will get my archives back up, but it will take awhile. When you’ve got 2 1/2 years worth of blog posts to be manually entered into a system, it’s no wonder.
So folks, please learn from my mistakes – back up your blog content monthly, and stay the HELL away from American Internet and their shitful, shitful customer service.

I’m so glad to see you back up, but what a pain in the butt! 2 1/2 years of posts is A LOT! Good luck!
That absolutely sucks balls… I will be sending them an unpleasant email… assholes!
BTW, how does one back-up blog posts? do you just keep the html code for them all in a word document or something like that?
I’m so sorry for your blog, but happy you are back again full of new energy.
I’ve just done the november backup file. Thanks for the useful lesson
That seriously sucks Ellie, especially the treatment you received from them!!
I’m still really shocked that they haven’t been able to do anything for you. They should be running daily backups, too!
Anyway, it’s great that you’re back and will be continuing to blog. I’ve missed you!
Glad to hear that it is related to internet service issues and nothing more serious. Good to have you back.
Wow.. that sucks.
That happens to more people than you realize. Don’t beat yourself up for it. That is a mistake that you’ll learn from.
I’m glad you’re back.
you’re archives up the end of last year (and an entry or so for this year) are up at the wayback machine–I wanted to do your Palets Bretons recipe from 2006 and hadn’t saved it to my computer, so I tried the wayback machine and they had it (it looked like all of 2006 and 2007)
That’s f-ing insane…. I can’t imagine how pissed you must be. I should be backing my blog up too, I guess we just don’t think this stuff will happen, it is completely their fault.
Hope things work out better this time around.
x
Oh I feel for you. I don’t know what I would do if the same thing happened. Screw the bastards I say!
Sorry to hear about the bad service. According to their website, they should have had you back in in less than an hour.
If the email doesn’t seem to do anything, you can also go to places like this (http://www.webhostingstuff.com/company/Amhostingco) and tell others what happened. Companies get real upset when you tell the world…
I look forward to reading (and trying out) more of your recipes
It is awesome to see Kitchen Wench back online in spite of your *&@*%$ host!
Can you recommend any particular backup software? We’ve been trying a couple of different things recently but aren’t really sold on any of them. :-/
Welcome back!
Oh, what a pain in the ass! I was trying to find your daeji bulgogi recipe. Glad to hear you’ll be putting your blog entries back up! Your food is quite good and is sorely missed.
That is just ridiculous. Talk about service. It’s their fault yet they won’t take blame for it.
I thought you might have had the same thing happen to me as I am on Blogger and lost my blog last month as well. It just disappeared one day. After a few days of searching for a support avenue, I finally submitted a form that said I deleted my own blog by accident (which I didn’t) and also sent them an email and they put the blog back after a week. No explanation of what happened, although Blogger is free so I can’t really complain.
But the moral of the story is for everyone to back up their blogs constantly. I hadn’t backed up anything for over a year and was really worried.
I hope you can get all your archives back up Ellie as I loved all your recipes.
So glad you’re back!!!
Relieved to see you back – I was worried you had just disappeared into the ether – sounds like a frustrating time! I would also be interested in any advice about backing up blogs as it is something I don’t know anything about. Good luck with getting all your lovely posts back up!
Thank god you are back. I love your recipes, your photos and your “other” blog as well
Like minds from a writer here in Canada who also loves it cook it up in the kitchen…. and other places too!
Note to self: your bad experience serves as a good lesson for me, as I take my blog from its current inception to my own site in January!
Looking forward to more food!
Laila
Ew, I hope you manage to get all your archives up ok in the end. Man that sucks. Have you found a better host? I hope so!
i am glad to see you are back up, i was worried for a while! that absolutely sucks arse!

D: that’s such a terrible thing to have happen!!! I’m glad to read that you’ll be back
Your blog is always such a joy to read.
You know, I was really upset when my bookmarked links to your Korean recipes and your blog all did not work.
But, good to see you’re back!
sorry for the loss
but definitely great to have you back! i missed my yummy korean recipes…
Ugh, that sounds horrific. Sorry to hear everything’s been such massive fail, glad you’re back!
So sorry to hear about this. God knows what I would’ve done if the same thing happened to me.
dude, that seriously sucks!
aaaarrrrgh customer service: they just should call them un-helpful lines and be done with it.
hope you can rescue your wenchy backlog, good luck!
Really happy that you’re back and might I say, looking mighty fine too!
Sorry to hear that, which company is that?
I’m so sorry to hear that!! I’m glad you’ll be back up and running – your Korean recipes are THE best!
I am so glad you’re back…and so sorry to hear about your troubles. Keep your head up, though. We all know you’re awesome.
You poor thing, I would be devestated. I am a very new blogger and already I feel a bit like it is my baby. Your photos are so gorgeous!
A shame to see you’ve lost all your archives. I’ve only just come across your site & wanna read more now.
I hope you’re able to get it all back online soon.
Oh no, Ellie, that’s tragic! I hope you can gradually recover your posts! It’s said to hear that those ppl are so irresponsible!
Oh wow! That stinks. Try 1&1 Hosting. They are cheap and reliable.
I was totally hoping to try some of your Korean recipes. Any chance you will have those back up anytime soon? It’s really hard to find Korean recipes.
You know I had the same issues with my Web hosting. However, after much headaches and a lot of learning, I found most of the issues involving the lost of my posts was an error on my part. But if they performed the upgrade, it’s an error on their part.
I started archiving using my free blogger blog that way if I lose my blog again in the upgrading process, I can always import from blogger. It’s a pain though, posting to two blogs.
Well, I am truly glad to hear that you are back! I had just discovered you & had subsribed just before you horrible experience, & it took me days to try to find you to no avail! I hope you enjoy blogging again, and welcome back!
I was checking out some recipes on “Group Recipes” I came across this sinfully custard looking cake and I just had to have it… After logging on to your link, I found “Kitenchwench” WOW want a find; you need to go on Food net works next star!!! I almost forgot what I was looking for… I love your style you have a life long follower… NOW where is my recipe for your yummy custard cake
Hurry my BD is next week and I must have it…
XOX
