HELP!!

I left work halfway through the day today after developing a fever, was so out of it that I almost had a car accident while driving myself to the doctor.

Lots of fluid and rest meant that I thought I’d killed the fever, but it’s begun to rear it’s ugly head and I can feel my skin burning and prickling and my breath drying out my lips. Despite this, I’m not tired enough to pass out and I’m too hot to tolerate lying in bed till sleep comes.

HELP!

Anyone have any advice on how to kill a fever, fast? I need to get to sleep :( :( :(

Medication–tylenol works well, so does motrin.

Sweat. Bundle yourself up. Sweatpants, sweatshirts, blankets duvets. Yes, I know you’re hot, but this works. Get an audiobook and listen to it bundled up. Every half hour take half a cup of fluids. Do this for 2 hours and if the fever hasn’t broken, (or you haven’t fallen asleep) call the dr. again, since it might be stronger than you originally though.

This has always worked for me. Hope you feel better soon.

Rest! Hope you feel better soon!

Aspirin. Plain old garden variety aspirin. Tylenol is okay too if you can take it and motrin is good for that plus body aches.

Also, a bath will cool your core temperature. Drink lots of fluids and remember to eat.

Starve a cold, feed a fever. When your temperature is high you burn through more caloric energy which requires more frequent replacement. Even if it’s something light, you have to keep eating in order to enable your body to fight the illness. Food=energy in this case.

Sleep.

Tylenol, yes and that sleep you mentioned! Hope your feeling better - much better - now!

My best advice is lots of fluids and lots of rest. And lots of hugs. Sending one your way now.

antibotics worked for me
the more fun alternative is exhasut yourself with sex (may spread infection to another person and cause the creation of an infinate loop)

i never take over the counter med. what always works for me and my kids is warm, homemade ginger tea (no sugar). drink it right before you get to bed and after a hot bath or shower and bundle yourself up. the fever will break middle of the night. if it doesn’t do it again the next night. cut down on sugar and drink warm fresh squeezed lemon juice all day long (if possible no sugar). you’ll be fine the next day or two.

Yes, you’re right - lots of fluids and rest. Calm your fever by taking paracetamol. Also, you need to wipe yourself with wet cloth and put it over your forehead to lower your temperature.

Usually, viral infections (flu) will just disappear within days and no cure for it. Have you tried steam inhalation? The heat will help stop any inflammation you have. Antibiotics will only work if you have a bacterial infection. But if you’re seriously unwell do not hesitate to see the doctor right away

Thanks folks! The fever broke early this morning and I’ve been asleep since :) Just still feeling achy and tired, but getting rest today should help that, and I reckon I’ll be right tomorrow :) Thanks for all your advice and well-wishes!

hope you will feel better soon, Ellie. Whenever I have fever, I drink coke with salt. Not sure if it works, it just makes me feel better. :p

Glad you’re feeling better.

You poor thing! It’s horrid when you’re hot and ill. Hope you are completely well soon!

honey and lemon and hot water always make me feel better and I spose you could make it and then cool it down in the fridge.

Tylenol? Is that like paracetmol?

I’m so happy you’re feeling better.

I too had a short bout of fever this week, it came out of nowhere and was pretty nasty.

and although we don’t like fevers, they’re actually good for us, the heat helps the body kill the pathogens that are trying to attack.

next time you find yourself burning up, you can take a fever reducer ( know that it will only reduce your fever by 2 degrees Fahrenheit ), apply a cold towel on your forehead and drink sugar free fluids because having a ever uses up water through evaporation (? i think i’m using the wrong term here )

i noticed another user said to bundle yourself up, tat is actually a dangerous thing to do as you will increase your temperature even more, and a temperature over 105 degrees Fahrenheit is dangerous to the brain.
