Welcome to my humble abode! Here, let me take your coat and show you to the dining room…

With food bloggers spanning all corners of the globe, in reality it is highly unlikely that we will ever have the chance to all sit down to a meal and each other’s company, quite a sad thought as there are many bloggers that I have grown to adore since my foray into this world of food and friendship. Angelika of ‘The Flying Apple‘ started this meme so that we might see what kind of spreads we may encounter if we were to visit each participants home for dinner, the only rule being that you had to “Describe a sort of ’signature menu’ revealing much of your personal cooking style and culinary preferences” that you would make for your fellow foodbloggers. Having been tagged by Susan of ‘Porcini Chronicles‘, I’m very happy to present to you my spread :)

Let’s relax with a glass of sauvignon blanc/semillion from the Silly Mid On range from the Jim Barry Winery in the Clare Valley, South Australia. Fruity and crisp, this is a wonderful white for a warm summer evening. The wine will accompany platters of fried vegetarian and pork potstickers.

Has everyone arrived? Good, let’s sit down :)

Next, we have entree servings of naeng-myun, a Korean summer dish, featuring buckwheat noodles served in an ice-cold beef broth, lightened with a little vinegar and topped with finely sliced nashi pear slices, julienned cucumber and a slice of boiled egg.

Being an Australian summer, the main course is going to be a barbeque, so let me take this opportunity to present a few salads beforehand - we have a regular mixed green leaf salad with a good quality balsamic and olive oil dressing, and a cold potato salad with corn, peas, sultanas, cubed apples and nashi pears.

Since the salads are now on the table, here’s the plate still sizzling from the barbeque. We have lamb chops, seasoned with naught but some salt and pepper and cooked medium-rare. We’ve also got some chicken and chili snags (sausages) from my local butcher, bulgogi (Korean BBQ beef) and dwaeji galbi (Korean style pork ribs). The Korean meats are all marinated, but I’ve got a bottle of Janet’s BBQ sauce for the other meats. To down such a simple feast, we’ve got some bottles of Coopers, Cascade and Crown - a trio of popular Aussie beers, as well a few bottle of a Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon for the red drinkers and more Silly Mid On for those with more of a mouth for whites.

Big meal, wasn’t it? Lean back and breathe in the night air, enjoy and relax as I bring out dessert!

Here’s a giant fruit salad with fresh watermelon, honeydew, rockmelon, grapes, mangoes, lychees and black cherries. There’s some of my favourite vanilla ice-cream which you can spoon on top of your bowl of fruit, as well as a double chocolate mud cake for those wanting something a bit more indulgent.

Let’s sit and digest this meal, once everyone has digested most of their meal and is feeling rather tired and happy, I’ll bring out the shik-hae to finish the meal. A Korean drink made by boiling malt powder with sugar and rice grains, it is traditionally served ice-cold after meals during the warmer months in Korea.

Whilst there’s nothing gourmet about my spread, it is a combination of the summer barbeques I have with offerings from both my Australian and Korean background. I hope you’ve enjoyed your meal :) Thanks to Susan for tagging me for this event, and now I’ll pass the baton on! Remember, there’s no obligation, but I hope you take part as I’d love to see what deliciousness your dinner guests are lucky to have!
