A cry for help!

My darling Marie-Laure, a young lass who hails from France and is currently studying in Australia, has been loving the little french petit-fours that I’ve been making her…but after moaning over the macarons, she asked me if I could please make her some ‘palets bretons‘ as she was dearly missing these treats. Apparantly quite similar to sables, but smaller and much thicker, it’s a type of cakey butter cookie which (she says) is fantastic with a glass of hot chocolate.

I’ve tried finding a recipe for these things but I haven’t been able to locate a single one in my cookbooks or on the internet…So, here’s a plea from myself on behalf of the wonderful Marie-Laure - has anyone got a recipe for these elusive ‘palets bretons‘ so I can help bring a taste of France to my homesick hon?

Sorry, no can do here.. not many french treats here in the suburbs! hehe But I hope you find the recipe.. I look forward to seeing what they are! Oh, and btw.. your friend.. she’s quite lucky to have you!

Nothing I have shows anything like palets bretons and the two books most likely I lost to water damage.

Can’t get more authentic than this right?

Isn’t the internet incredible! Very neat even in French.

and hey, if you want a translation of the thing, all you have to do is ask marie-laure :) isn’t that handy !

Lisa - Bah! French treats can be anywhere, all you need is a kitchen ;) Hehehe, I remind her that she’s lucky to have me every time she gets food (but she wholeheartedly agrees ;))

Tanna - The internet is an amazing place (sorry to hear about those books by the way, I can’t imagine what I’d do if I lost any of mine - I thought I did once and went beserk till I found it in the pantry…!)

Cin - Thanks for that! I’ll have to get it translated as my French is nonexistant (all I got from high school was ‘je ne sais pas!’) but much appreciated!

Gauri - damn straight! Have emailed her the link just now ;)

These come in a timely manner as I was having a craving for some cookies my mom used to get us on the wekend. Will bake, translate and post tomorrow.
I love the details and organization of your blog. Keep up the good work!

forgot to add that I am popping macarons in the oven this very second!

Helen - Ooh, I’m going to be baking those tonight :D We can do a cross-posty bake! Awesome :)

Hope you post about those macarons, I’d love to see how they turned out!

Hi Aardvark, thanks for the tip! :) I’ll get Marie-Laure to have a look at the two in French and perhaps get her to compare cookies :)
