Actually, considering how many hours I spent in the kitchen this weekend past, I’m kinda surprised I didn’t sustain any more injury than I did!

Got back from the family office on Friday to be greeted by a frantic mother who’s just gotten home from the markets and is now racing around the kitchen about to start half a dozen things. She informs me that she has to make a dish for her church meeting that night, as well as starting preparation on 4kg of beef short ribs for the dinner party on Saturday night. I was already exhausted, but I offered to bake a cake that she could take to the meeting in lieu of a dish so she could have a shower and get ready to leave in about 90 minutes…

I quickly whip up a vanilla and cinnamon teacake and bung it in the oven, only to turn around and see my mother nervously hacking at the short ribs with a BIG kitchen knife and a towel around her head. Fearing for her hands, I gently push her aside, take the knife and start the preparations myself (chopping them into single ribs, then removing all the fat and as much sinew and connective tissue as possible), and tell her to go dry her hair and get ready for her meeting.

I finally finish trimming the ribs 2 hours later…then go to sleep and wake up on Saturday only to spend the entire morning cleaning the house, then another 6 hours in the kitchen with ma, preparing dinner for the guests that are due to arrive by 7pm.

Sunday, I wake up…go grocery shopping, then spend another 6 hours cooking things for the food blog.

No wonder my shoulder hurts. I think I need a weekend break from my weekend, yeesh! Tonight, I lounge around in tracksuit pants and watch videos. Damnit, I wants me some lazy time!
