In The Press

Being a media student, stories to do with the media industry (more so new media rather than old) tend to grab my attention). I don’t have the time to write up my thoughts on these stories at the moment, but will post my own response to them next week after my final exam:

  • Mass deletion sparks LiveJournal revolt - internet and censorship.
  • For pornographers, Internet’s virtues turn to vice - the internet and the porn industry have always been considered linked in the minds of my lecturers. Is the industry really in demise, or is the medium for it just changing, like with almost all other media forms?
  • Google buys RSS company FeedBurner - Google is buying the planet. Forget Microsoft, the next galaxy to be discovered will be named after Google
  • Apple criticized for embedding names, e-mails in songs - copyright AND privacy issues! What more could you ask for in a riveting news piece?
  • News Corp.’s Intermix buy gets antitrust OK - And if Google doesn’t own the world in the next 20 years, Rupert Murdoch will
  • Apple confirms MySpace ban in retail stores - but not if Steve Jobs/Apple can stop them!
  • And in non-media related matters, the woman who wrote this book is a fuckwit. And this woman writes a rebuttal that I mostly agree with, which will do as my retaliation for now.

And now for something completely different - a video of Mr Woofy being supercute while watching a video of an angry cat on YouTube:

I’ve read the book in question. It wasn’t that bad. It was more nuanced than the ‘become a stepword wife’ summation that’s been made of it.

There are parts that raises eyebrows but I didn’t expect to agree with everything. Like any book - there are parts that resonate and parts you discard.

Like everything else in life, best to disregard propaganda and find out for yourself on your own terms.

Hi Maxine - not having read the book, I was actually voicing my dislike of her based on an interview that I saw and what she said about her philosophies, they’re what really got me riled up. As for the book, I’m certainly not paying for a copy, but if I happen to come across a copy at the library, I’ll give it a read-through for curiosity’s sake.
